How to Minimize Outlook Express in the systray

TRAYZONE is a small free utility (33Kb!) that allow users to minimize Outlook Express in the Windows Systray. The systray is the screen zone near to the clock, in the lower-right corner, that usually contains the icons of running applications.

Keeping Outlook in memory and in execution can be useful but, even if minimized, normally it occupies a place in the task bar: TrayZone simply sends Outlook in the systray when the user clicks on the “minimize” button of its window; it will be restored at any time, with a single click on that icon.
Furthermore, TrayZone strongly reduces Outlook’s memory occupation, when it’s minimized. From several Mb of RAM (when it’s in full screen, normal mode) to some Kb when it’s minimized by TrayZone. No doubt: this is an useful app.

No installation is required and no folder, file or registry key is modified. It’s sufficient to copy the files in the zip to a custom folder and to launch TrayZone.exe. If you don’t like it, just delete the files.

Using it is really easy: just launch the TrayZone executable, from the archive you can download from the official site linked below, and it will start Outlook Express. When you will click on the ”Minimize” button, Outlook will hide itself and it will become a little icon in the systray, and it will be restored in normal mode only when you will single-click the icon. If you’ll click on the “X” to close Outlook, also TrayZone will terminate.

If you decide to start TrayZone automatically when Windows starts, it’s possible to launch the .exe file with -mini argument, to start Outlook in invisibile mode (so, you’ll be free to minimize it for every reboot).

TrayZone is a software by the italian Imianz, and the official home page is in italian and english.

I use trayzone regularly now. Thank you for the tip. This is one of the greatest Outlook Express utilities. This and “Outlook Express Tweaker” (freeware) are my favourites.

A bug report for trayzone OE.

After standby (sleep) of my IBM laptop, trayzone became no response to mouse click (left or right). This always repeated on my system.

I am using OE6, lastest trayzone, Japanese XP pro. limited/restricted user.

    Thanks.

And sometimes, without known reasons, after closing OE, trayzone is not closed and became no response. Don’t know if only I have such things, no other reports have been seen.

Hey. I just downloaded your software, is exactly what I was looking for. I used HideOE.exe before, but became useless with this XP SP2. Yours, however, does what I need! many thanks! It’s a simple, minimal, to-the-point piece of soft. Thanks so much for the time spent on it!
