Replacing the Sun Java Virtual Machine with the Microsoft one
Microsoft was obliged to remove its JVM from Windows XP since January of 2004, because of some legal issues. Download of the Java Virtual Machine was also disabled from Windows Update: this was the cause of troubles for many users, because a lot of IRC web-chats and several online apps and games are based on Java applets.
Users must install the famous and official Virtual machine by Sun, that unfortunately is slower to start and greedy with RAM. The Microsoft JVM, even if it’s no more updated (and it has some security issues), is still on the Net, and it’s possible to get it and to easily install on our PCs instead of the Sun version.
First of all you’ve to uninstall Sun JVM, from the Add/remove applications tool in the Control Panel; then it’s necessary to get the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine from one of the many links on the Internet, seeking for the filename of the installation with Google (msjavx86.exe).
